House of Fun review: 400+ free slots, and a coin timer that never agrees with itself

House of Fun is Playtika's other big slot app. We compared its free coin sources, library size and store prices with Slotomania, and we could not prove it gives more spins.

Our verdict

House of Fun is a large, free-to-play slot app that pays no cash prizes, so the real cost is the coin store. It lists 400+ slots, which beats the 170+ we saw quoted for Slotomania, but its own pages disagree about whether bonus coins arrive hourly or every three hours. We found no proof that free players get more spins per session.

Best for: Slot fans who want a big library and never plan to buy coins

Does House of Fun hand free players more spins per session than Playtika's own Slotomania? We tried to answer it from the published facts, and the honest result is that nobody has published a clean comparison, and neither app's pages give a spin count. Spins depend on two things the player controls or the game scales: how many coins arrive and how big the bet is. What we can compare is the supply side, and on library size House of Fun looks stronger.

A note on method. We read House of Fun's pages, its App Store listing and independent write-ups. We did not install the app for a timed session or buy coins, so nothing below claims a spin count we measured.

A library that is bigger on paper

The App Store listing says "more than 400 slot machines", and its FAQ repeats "400+ free slot games". Our own Slotomania review quotes that app's About page at over 170 slots. A library more than twice as long does not give you more spins, but it does mean fewer repeats, and slot apps that rotate themes keep free players longer.

The site pitches itself in theme sections. The Vegas page promises the "excitement and electric energy of the famous Strip" with Strip-style machines, and the About page states the app was made for adults aged 21 and over, "with the sole purpose of entertaining". No page mentions payouts, because there are none: coins have no value outside the app.

The free coin supply, and its timer problem

The free coins page is headlined "Get 100 Free spins Now" and offers no matching number in the body. It does state the rules. Free coins are "limited to one gift per 24H", and a streak runs for eight consecutive days to a final "massive" prize before the cycle resets. It gives no coin amount for that prize, none for the welcome gift, and it says a new player gift is "limited to 1 claim per user".

Then the timers disagree. One section says coins are released every three hours. The FAQ says to collect them every hour from the lobby. The App Store text adds a Wheel of Fun and daily gifts. Playing it by the page that gives the lowest frequency, you get a daily gift plus a three-hourly bonus, which is a lot of small collections.

Compare Slotomania, which per its own page runs a special bonus every four hours and a daily gift. So the two apps have similar drips on paper. A PokerNews roundup says House of Fun welcomes new players with a one-million-coin bonus, but one App Store reviewer says the promised 100 free spins were played at such a low bet that each was worth around 5,000 coins. We cannot verify either claim, but it shows why "free spins" is a weaker unit than the bet size attached to them.

Where the money goes

The app is free to download and sells virtual items for real money, including random items; the free coins page says so directly. The App Store lists packs at $0.99, $1.99, $4.99, $9.99, $19.99 and up to $99.99. Cheap packs make an impulse purchase easy, and the top price makes a bad evening expensive. The site tells players they can turn off in-app purchases in device settings, which is the one control worth using if a household shares a phone.

The listing is also inconsistent about age. The App Store labels the app 18+, yet the description says it is for adults 21 and over. Treat 21 as the real rule and keep it away from younger players.

Verdict for free players

On the evidence, House of Fun gives you a bigger menu than Slotomania and a similar-sized daily gift system. It does not give you provable extra spins. If your goal is to play for free, the best plan is the dull one: claim the daily gift, collect timers when you happen to open the app, play at the lowest bet that keeps a game fun, and stop when the coins run out.

If you want a cash prize, look at sweepstakes sites instead; here coins are for entertainment only. Whatever you pick, the house edge always applies in the sense that the games are built to take more coins than they return, and a coin store is a cost, not an investment. If you find yourself buying to chase a feature, take a break.

Rating

We give House of Fun 5.9 out of 10. The library and the star rating are good, the coin rules are messy, and the store pricing is typical.
